The Gruffalo birthday party |
The Gruffalo by Julia Donaldson was my son’s favourite story when he was two. He always chose it as his bedtime story and knew parts of it by heart, so we chose this to be the theme for his birthday party.
As usual, I went completely overboard. Our living room was decorated with green balloons and bunting that I made from a combination of tissue paper and fabric. Giant green paper pom-poms completed the look. Instructions for these were found on a tutorial by Best friends for frosting.
Instead of having one birthday cake, I found a great Gruffalo cupcake idea at Sun hats and wellie boots. Chocolate cupcakes were decorated with marshmallows and smarties to create the Gruffalo’s face.
As we don’t have much room, I filled my leftover Graze boxes for the children and they had an indoor picnic. The boxes included Roasted fox (Vegetarian rolls), Scrambled snake (Cheese & tomato quiche), Knobbly knees (Cheddar wafers), Deep dark wood (Carrot & cucumber sticks), Gruffalo eyes (Babybel), Poisonous warts (Grapes), Purple prickles (Blackberries).
The kitchen table was covered in astroturf and the adults had a themed buffet lunch.
The party was a huge success and I had lots of fun making everything (even if I still couldn’t persuade my son to eat carrots or cucumber!).
